Michael Zwaagstra

Michael Zwaagstra is a public high school teacher, city councillor, and author. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member with Steinbach Bible College, where he teaches courses in history, theology and ethics.

Michael holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Liberty University and graduated with high distinction. He received his Bachelor of Education, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Education, and Master of Education degrees from the University of Manitoba.

Since 2009, Michael has written a weekly column in The Carillon titled, “Think Again.” On two occasions, he received the Best Columnist award from the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association. He also writes columns on education policy for daily newspapers across the country and has been published in the National Post and the Globe and Mail.

His first book, What’s Wrong with Our Schools and How We Can Fix Them (co-authored with Rodney Clifton and John Long), was released in 2010 and his second book, A Sage on the Stage: Common Sense Reflections on Teaching and Learning, was released in 2019.

In 2006, Michael was elected to Steinbach City Council and was re-elected in 2010, 2014, and 2018. He and his wife, Angela, live in Steinbach and are happy to be raising their children in that community.
